The Ridgeline did just fine on Mudfest’s off-road course, but sometimes hesitated a bit while negotiating steep obstacles and needed some throttle-goosing to get going. In the dirt, where you’d most expect the more seasoned Ridgeline to dominate, the Santa Cruz winnows out a surprising advantage. Our on-pavement verdict: Santa Cruz hands down. Other than this, Hyundai’s new pickup felt surprisingly composed through the turns. The only off note was the Hyundai’s shift logic, which occasionally seemed unprepared for quick transitions on the track, prompting the tires to chirp at odd moments. The Ridgeline’s 18-inchers and offroad tires gave it a bit of a handicap on the track, but smoothed out its ride quality both on-road and off. This combination specifically (the base Santa Cruz gets a less powerful non-turbo 2.5 and conventional automatic), makes it feel far quicker and more spirited than the Honda. While the Ridgeline gets a single-option 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, top-trim Santa Cruzes are powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged four with 277 horsepower and 311 pound-feet, paired with a snappy dual-clutch automatic. The Ridgeline’s taller tires on 18-inch wheels were a handicap here (the Santa Cruz was running 20s), but even so, the Santa Cruz’s handling advantages were unmistakable. The taller Ridgeline by contrast feels a bit soggy when pushed-despite the slight increase in track width it received for 2021, it body-rolls its way through turns and its loose steering does it no favors. The Santa Cruz’s wide, low stance, modest size, and quick steering make it nimble and responsive on the track. Alex Kwanten Santa Cruz Versus Ridgeline: On the PavementĪlthough the Honda Ridgeline has traditionally been known as the most carlike of trucks, the Santa Cruz makes it feel like a tractor in back-to-back testing. The Ridgeline is a car-like drive compared to a Toyota Tacoma, but feels ponderous compared to the Hyundai, with plenty of body roll. Driving both trucks in quick succession on the track and on the offroad course was an eye-opening experience-here’s how they compared on a series of crucial truck measures. It’s only natural to wonder how this newcomer stacks up against its closest predecessor, and luckily, we happened to have both a Santa Cruz and a Ridgeline on hand at Mudfest, an annual truck-and-SUV faceoff event hosted by the Northwest Automotive Press Association. ![]() Calling the Santa Cruz a “sport activity vehicle” and overtly avoiding the term “truck,” Hyundai sets its sights on active weekend-warrior types who might occasionally need a small bed for hauling gear or project materials. ![]() The new-for-2022 Santa Cruz is also a unibody, front-drive-based rig, but it’s smaller than the Ridgeline and consciously makes no overtures to traditional truck owners. Hyundai takes a different tack with its first-ever pickup. But Honda purposefully restyled it last year to make it look more like a traditional truck. As we said in our 2021 review, the Ridgeline does 85% of the things that most truck buyers will ever do with their vehicles. ![]() It can also represent the idea that we all have a dark side and a light side and that we should learn to embrace both. The Greek τὰ κατώτατα ( ta katôtata, "the lowest") and the Latin inferos ("those below") may also be translated as " underworld", "netherworld", or "abode of the dead". The Greek wording in the Apostles' Creed is κατελθόντα εἰς τὰ κατώτατα ( katelthonta eis ta katôtata), and in Latin is descendit ad inferos. The New Testament maintains a distinction between Sheol, the common "place of the dead", and the eternal destiny of those condemned at the Final Judgment, variously described as Gehenna, "the outer darkness," or a lake of eternal fire. Several works from the Second Temple period elaborate the concept of Sheol, dividing it into sections based on the righteousness or unrighteousness of those who have died. The Old Testament view of the afterlife was that all people when they died, whether righteous or unrighteous, went to Sheol, a dark, still place. In triumphant descent, Christ brought salvation to the souls held captive there since the beginning of the world. In Christian theology, the Harrowing of Hell ( Latin: Descensus Christi ad Inferos, "the descent of Christ into Hell" or Hades) is an Old English and Middle English term referring to the period of time between the Crucifixion of Jesus and his resurrection. ![]() The project was later removed from Mango's Tropical Cafe's website in June 2019. In January 2019, it was announced that the Skyplex project as a whole had been scaled back, but that the size of the tower and 2020 opening date would remain unchanged. The last update from the developers on Facebook was in December 2017, and their Twitter feed went dormant two years earlier. By June 2019, the website promoting the project was taken down, and reports surfaced in 2020 that Universal used a variety of legal tactics to derail the project. The complex's projected opening date was pushed back further to 2020, with rides opening sometime later. In January 2019, Skyplex's budget was scaled back from $500 million to $251 million, with plans to retain Skyscraper's original coaster design but include less retail development around the base of the structure. By April 2017, portions of the roller coaster's track had been completed by Intamin and were placed in storage, but construction of the complex was still on hold pending permit approval. The addition of virtual reality headsets to Skyscraper was announced in late 2016, and the expected opening date was updated to 2019. However, design changes and a lengthy process for obtaining the necessary permits caused several delays in breaking ground, and the timeline was updated to reflect construction on the complex beginning in mid-2017. Construction on the main complex was expected to begin in 2015, with the ride opening in 2016. The skyscraper was officially announced on June 5, 2014. ![]() Documents uncovered by an Orlando news agency revealed that the roller coaster would be located in Central Florida along International Drive at the intersection with Sand Lake Road. In May 2014, investment for the project was sought, and a website was formed to assist with the endeavor. After several successful negotiations for land, the development of both the roller coaster and Skyplex began. In 2012, Wallack Holdings, owners of Mango's Tropical Café in Orlando, selected the Polercoaster design concept pitched by US Thrill Rides to become their flagship attraction at the future-planned Skyplex indoor entertainment complex. In 2022, the companies funding the project filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. By 2019, the status of the project fell into uncertainty with the removal of the project's website and lack of updates from developers. Skyscraper would have become the tallest roller coaster in the world at over 500 feet (150 m), and it would have featured both the steepest drop and highest inversion in the world.ĭevelopers anticipated completion by 2016, but a number of delays resulted in the date being pushed back several times. Development began in 2012 by American manufacturer US Thrill Rides and Swiss manufacturer Intamin, with both companies designing the attraction as the first Polercoaster model utilizing an observation tower for its main support structure. Skyscraper was a roller coaster concept originally planned for a future Skyplex entertainment complex located in Orlando, Florida. Rise of the Legend is a solid idea and the cast is well-chosen. As the other three sons – North Evil (Feng Jiayi), Black Crow (Byron Mann) and Old Snake (Brian Siswojo) – look on jealously, Ah Fei performs his triad duties while making surreptitious contact with the righteous Orphan Gang, led by childhood friend Fiery (Jing Boran) and tomboy Chun (Wang Luodan). Jump Ashin! showed that Peng can handle action, and he hasn’t lost much of his buffed physique from Unbeatable either. Absent as the subject of a theatrical film since 1997’s Once Upon a Time in China and America, Wong Fei-Hung gets rebooted in director Roy Chow’s Rise of the Legend, a Batman Begins-esque look at Fei-Hung before he became the famed folk hero of Canton. It was inevitable that Wong Fei-Hung would return to the big screen – the biggest surprise is that it took this long. The action is decent, but the story and characters come up short.
